A conversion flat on a quiet street off the Strand in WC2N — original mid-century herringbone parquet in good structural condition but with a tired surface. A few blocks had come loose near the doorways, which we re-glued and filled before sanding. The client chose a clear satin lacquer to keep the natural colour.
The layout required edge sanding around built-in units and a radiator cover, which we worked around without damage to the woodwork.
The WC2N postcode covers a dense cluster of residential buildings between the Strand and Long Acre. Most of the residential conversions here date from the early to mid-20th century, and a good number of them have original parquet in the reception rooms. We find the floors in this area are generally in better structural condition than you might expect — it is usually the finish rather than the substrate that needs work.
We work across the West End and City fringes regularly including WC2, EC4, and SE1 — the Strand corridor and Waterloo end. Parking in WC2N requires planning; we sort that at the booking stage and factor any permits into the quote.
All sanding and finishing work is carried out by our own team.
